Syllabus

Welcome to Fall 2023 Bachata. Samarrah and Jim are excited to have you join them to explore and learn Bachata.

Classes will be held 7:00 PM - 8:15 PM, Monday evenings. Samarrah and Jim will also offer a review of previous week's lessons from 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM prior to each week's class. This is a perfect opportunity for a quick refresher and allows you to catch up if you missed a class.

Please always be punctual to eliminate any disruption to class in session.

While Bachata is very much a couples dance, instruction will be delivered Rueda-style (think: latin square dancing in a giant circle with a leader calling each move and dancers changing partners frequently). This approach allows students to dance with many different partners quickly and easily. Time will also be spent practicing pure couple-style dancing as the semester progresses!

There is a long list of moves available to teach with some new ones recently added. Samarrah and Jim will be taking a just-in-time syllabus approach to planning which moves to teach and when to teach them based on the natural velocity and ability of the class. The list of Bachata moves (below) will be updated each week. The list will include videos of all the moves that have been taught to date along with the moves on deck to teach next week.

Oh, and don't miss Jim's weekly dad jokes. They are groan-worthy!
